Still Life

The main ideas that guided these three art pieces are the direct observations I based them on. In the Self-Portrait, I was guided by the mirror and went from there.  For the Corner of my Room, I drew the corner of my room and simply drew what I saw. Lastly; my Still Life. I found a teapot and drew what I saw; the shadows and glimmers reflected on the metal and the shape and angles of the curved object. In all of these pieces, I was portraying what I saw through my eyes, based on observation only.

For all of these pieces, the materials I used were drawing paper and 2B graphite pencils. In all three of these drawings, I used the pencil in a different way and it brought out each drawing in a different way. For each piece, I sketched out a general outline, and from there I added the minor details and shading I thought was needed.

The three sketches I created were based on pure observation. I began by observing the object I would draw, and then tried to draw the most accurate representation of each. In the process of all of these pieces, I erased and redrew them many times to capture the best shape and perspective. For the teapot, I wanted to draw dark shadows and light glimmers because it brings out the dimensions and reflections. I like how one of the more ordinary objects in life can be expressed and thought of as unique and more abstract. The purpose of the heightened perspective in Corner of my Room sketch was to encapsulate all of what I wanted to show. I could express more of what interests me and add all the little things into the art piece. I was able to present a little part of me as well as a corner of a room in one piece together.
