Beautiful Oops

Moon and Mountains

Colored pencils and ink on drawing paper

9'' x 6''

After taking a moment to look at the ink shape on the paper, I thought about what it could turn into. I saw the splashes of ink morph into the outline of mountaintops and knew what I could do. I wanted to create a calm and pretty landscape so I attempted to draw that. I then added the peninsulas with trees for more depth and complexity.

With this piece, I began using my graphite pencil and sketched out a general outline. I then went in with my blue and black colored pencils. I used a bit of shading and other techniques for a better outcome.

I started out by choosing what ink-splatted paper I wanted.  I decided on the one that appeared as a fragment of a skyline with a moon hovering in the air. The placement of the ink was perfect for what I had in mind. Once I chose this beautiful oops, I created the mountain ridge, a dark blue sky, and some foreground as well. Contrasting with the black, I thought the blue would add some nice color.
