Dragonflies
Colored pencils, graphite pencils, ink, watercolor paper
4.75" x 6.75"
I generated this idea from the initial ink splotch shown on the paper. The ink spots closely resembled the bodies of dragonflies and I went from there. I thought it would be fun to try to draw dragonflies because their wings are very intricate with patterns and colors. It was also cute that there are two and one is smaller than the other. Its like a parent with its child.
I used graphite pencils to sketch out my plan on the piece of watercolor paper. I then used prisma colored pencils and filled in the dragonfly wings and created the leaf. The black splotches are also made from ink.
After generating the idea of dragonflies, I looked up a variety of images to help with the shape and patterns of the wings. I also thought it would fit to add a leaf for the two dragonflies to stand on. I wanted to add color so I used prisma colored pencils and added colors on their wings and leaf and a light background.
