When creating this piece I was guided by the ideas of home and childhood which is my sustained investigation. I have included myself or my sister in most of my pieces, so I wanted to continue including that component. My cat, Ally, reminds me of home and childhood and I thought would represent my exploration well. 

I used charcoal pencils as the main material for this piece. I also used graphite pencils for a quick outline of the setting. Charcoal connects with my inquiry because it creates a tone of remembrance and oldness. It is a good material when drawing childhood scenes because it captures the fondness and warmth of this memory. 

I began brainstorming what I could do for this project and I thought of including one of my pets because they convey feelings of home. I chose this specific image because I liked the inclusion of Clio and me and the closeness it portrays. I tried to make my cat stand out with more white charcoal for the fur. I also wanted to capture the softness with lots of blending of the charcoal. I tried to create more depth with more contrast of blacks and whites.
