I was guided by my inquiry question of how my childhood and home have influenced my life. I wanted to capture a moment that felt like home to me. This inspired me to draw a scene of my sister, friend, and I playing on a beach, Shark Cove. A place in the summer we always took the boat to and played in the rare white sand beach and clear waters of Maine. I chose this image to create my art from because I liked the movement of the water, the peaceful blue sky, and the simplicity of the figure sitting on the beach. 

I used graphite pencils for the water, beach, and grass/tree areas. I tried to shade with the blender tool to create more movement in the water. I also wanted to create more contrast with the seaweed and shadows. I used colored pencils to create the people and sky. This is also not fully completed as I will add sand on the beach with glue. 

I began researching and sketching out possible ideas. I liked this potential plan and felt like I hadn't captured a beach/ocean scene in my investigation yet, so I sketched it out and went from there. I tried out selective color in this piece because it is a different approach and thought it would be interesting. I only colored the sky and people, leaving the rest black and white. This influenced the scene as the people stood out against the colorless background and the sky is also prominent against the dull colors.
