Watercolor on watercolor paper
This piece is an abstract map of my house from above. Instead of making it look realistic, I used cube-shaped brushstrokes to show where I spend most of my time. The darker areas represent rooms I’m in the most, and the lighter ones show spaces I don’t use as much. I wanted the painting to feel more like a memory of my house than an exact layout. It’s about how some places feel more important or full of energy because I’m there more often.
I used watercolor because I liked how the colors can layer and blend softly. It let me show how different parts of my house overlap in my mind. The transparent colors helped me build depth without making it look too busy or heavy. I painted small, square brushstrokes to create a pattern that feels organized but still loose and simple.
I started by sketching a few ideas of what an overhead view of my house could look like. Then I drew a light pencil outline before painting. I thought a lot about color and where to make things darker to show importance, and where to keep them light to show open space. I added layers slowly, changing colors and shapes until it felt balanced. I liked how the cube pattern gave it rhythm and movement, almost like a path through my daily life.
Process image- I forgot to take a picture of my sketches!
