When creating this piece I was guided by my previous works in this sustained investigation and also inspired by the ideas I'm exploring like home and childhood. My siblings are a huge part of my childhood and this piece captures all of us when picking out our Christmas tree and tying it to the car. I used a reference image taken by my mom and tried to convey the feelings of home and closeness through my chosen materials. This time of year also inspired me to do this piece. The festive holiday season has arrived and reminds me of the fond memories of chopping down our Christmas tree as a family. 

I used soft chalk pastels to create this, and graphite pencils for a rough sketch of an outline. These materials tie to my childhood because I used to use them when I was younger. I have used a variety of pastels, chalk, and crayons over the years, connecting to my inquiry of how home and childhood impact my life. 

I chose this image to base my art on because I thought it would convey the ideas I'm exploring in my investigation well. I also wanted to experiment with more mediums so I used chalk pastels. With this material, I could blend it and create a soft, old, childlike appearance of my siblings, me, and our Christmas tree. I also wanted to experiment with the color and textures of chalk pastels. I struggled a bit with deepening the colors and layering the green, blue, and brown, but I still enjoyed the process!
