The idea of home guided me and this inspired me to choose this image to reference because it is a picture of the family camp we used to have in Idaho. It represents home because it was a place that was so familiar and fond to me. The photo this is based on was taken many years ago and my brother and sister are sitting on the snow-covered roof. With this piece, I wanted to illustrate the childhood feelings and fondness this place holds. 

I used watercolor paper and with a graphite pencil, sketched out the plan for the piece. I used colored pencils for the details and watercolor for a general base layer. I also used a thicker watercolor paint called gouache to help define the snow, sky, and trees. When I was younger, I often used watercolor and colored pencils, so when using them in this piece I could convey a childlike feel.

I started out brainstorming what I wanted to do and what reference image I could use. I based my art on this because I thought it would express ideas of home and childhood well. Especially with my siblings sitting on top of the snow-covered garage in this fond winter paradise. I tried to have the snow and snowy trees pop to help enhance the wintry feel of the art. I also aimed to bring out the color in the jackets so they stood out more against the cold and snowy environment. My siblings sitting up there truly helps strengthen the childlike and familiarity of my art, adding to the broader idea of home.
