Week 4: First Draft

Have you ever experienced writer's block? Sometimes the writing process can feel overwhelming. You have a blank page in front of you and can't figure out what to write. But what we will look at this week is that if we start the first draft freely and without concern for how it looks, we can eliminate "writer's block" and focus more on just getting our ideas on paper.

At this end of this module, you should be able to:

• • Convert an outline into a first draft

  • Understand how to use sentence starters

Estimated time to complete: 1-2 hours

This week's activities include:

• A review of an article from acclaimed author Stephen King in Part 1

• A short lesson on how to start the first draft in Part 2

• A writing activity in which you develop your first draft in Part 3

This assignment is due by 9pm on Sunday, August 17th.

And remember, focus on finding one or two tips that you think will be useful for your own writing.

Now that you have a complete outline of your body paragraphs, let's look at how easy it can be to write a first draft of our essay. Part 3 - Activity: Start your first draft!

Now that we have reviewed tips on how to be a good writer, and completed a short lesson on how to get started with the drafting process, let's begin. In this week's activity, be sure to use your outline from last week to get started with the drafting process. You can always access old documents in your Google Drive by visiting drive.google.com and clicking on the title of the document. And when you are ready, click on the icon below to get started with this week's assignment.
