AT&T... Sprint.... Verizon... Boost Mobile ... they are all wireless providers (meaning they provide wireless access to the internet through devices like cell phones). For decades, the wireless industry has been dominated by just a few companies. But is that all about to change with the addition of Google to the list?
This activity is focused on learning about Google Nova - the latest innovation from Google, with an emphasis on writing and specifically, paragraph organization.
Estimated time to complete: 1-2 hours.
Why you should complete this activity:
To learn about Google's upcoming wireless product (which might be cheaper than your current plan)
To analyze the writing skills of a blogger
To practice writing skills and paragraph organization
What you should do to complete the activity:
Read about Google Nova in Part 1
Watch the short lesson on paragraph organization in Part 2
If needed, review the article on paragraph organization from the UNC Writing Center in Part 3
Last, develop your own paragraph in Part 4 (to be submitted through Google Docs)
Part 1 - Read about the Google Nova project
We will be reading this article twice this week, so for the first read, just browse the article and try to answer a few questions:
What is the topic of the article?
What are some of the key points of the article?
Why could this article be relevant to your own life?
Remember, re-reading articles is a great active reading strategy, so read it the first time as an introduction. Click here to read the article for the first time.
Part 2 - Watch this short video lesson about paragraph organization
Paragraph organization is an important part of the HiSET essay, often times more important than grammar. After all, a well-organized essay is easier to read and more effective at informing and persuading the audience. So before you start this week's activity, check out this short YouTube video that discussed paragraph organization.
Computer Tip: Remember, you can make a YouTube video full screen by clicking the rectangle in the bottom-right corner of the video.
Part 3 - Review the article on paragraph organization from the UNC Writing Center
Remember, part of being a good student, especially in the 21st century, is getting to know yourself and your needs, and then accessing resources you need most.
And when you see a link in an article or lesson, it's up to you to decide if it's a useful resource.
So here's a link to an article by the Writing Center at the University of North Carolina about how to write effective paragraphs. Check out it. Read it all or just browse the parts that you find useful.
Part 4 - Write your own short paragraph and submit your activity through Google Docs
