Email from Week 1 (Saturday, November 8th)
Thanks for attending Thursday's Orientation Session. I hope you are excited to get started with the coursework (and I see that many of you already have on Khan Academy).
Over the next few days, I'll be sharing guides on how to get familiar with the course. In general, be sure to check your Gmail inbox regularly (daily), and always read every email sent.
And to get started this week, here are a few goals for this first week:
Add a profile picture to your Gmail account - This will help your instructor and fellow students get to know you. Click here for details on how to add a picture to your Gmail account (you can ignore this if you already have a picture tied to your account). Due: Wednesday, November 12th by 9am
Submit your Weekly Planner - the purpose of this assignment is to figure out when you will budget time each week to work on Khan Academy and the rest of the coursework. Here's a sample of what a good weekly planner could look like.
To submit your planner, follow these steps:
2) Click "File > Make a Copy"
3) Edit the document with your own weekly schedule
4) When you finish, click "Share" in the top-right corner and share it with "teachjoey@gmail.com" ----- that's it!
And remember, a good goal is to budget 4-6 hours per week for online studying. It's okay if you end up with a little more or less. Due: Friday, November 14th by 9am
Post to a Discussion Board Thread - Click here to access our class discussion board page, and pick any of the threads and respond to the question. This can be a question you have about the course, a brief photo introduction, or your response to the question, "If you could have any superpower, what would it be?" The purpose of this activity is just to get familiar with how the discussion board works! Due: Friday, November 15th by 9am
Get started on Khan Academy - Just spend some time playing around on the website; check out the other courses, watch some videos, try some activities, and just get comfortable on the page. Remember, be sure to always log-in with the same Google account; this will make sure that Khan is always getting to know you and delivering the best possible course for you as a student. And click here to check out some video guides to Khan Academy.
And remember, in general, I never delete emails. For your sake, be sure to save these eLearn messages in case you want to open them later!
Good luck with this first week; email me with any questions; and remember, the online office hours start this week, so come find me in a Google Hangout or Gchat!
