Accept Coaching Invitation
Now that you have created an account and sent in your username (remember to send me your username if you haven't already), let's talk about how to get started using Read Theory. First, make sure you've accepted the invitation to join the "eLearn Pilot":
Getting Started - 10 Activities Per Week!
Next, your weekly goal is to complete at least 10 passages per week. You can certainly do more if you have the time, but be sure to complete at least 10 per week. Just like Khan Academy, this program is self-paced, so you can get online as much as you want each. It's also adaptive, so as you complete activities, the website will get to know you and build a unique course for you based on your reading level.
Check out the bottom of this page for a short video tutorial on how the program works. As usual, the best way to learn new software is just to play around with it and learn from your mistakes. So be sure to log-in regularly and just click around!
Tips and Reminders
Always log-in with the same username - the software will get to know you as a student and build a custom course based on your academic level, so using the same username will help the program track your progress
Use the passage to answer questions - it's always a good reading strategy to be able to support your response with something you've found in the passage; you can toggle between the passage and questions as you work through each
Be consistent - Try to get online a few times per week with the goal of completing 10 activities per week. Remember, getting online more will help the program get to know you as it build a unique course around your academic level.
Learn from mistakes - Use the explanations of questions you get wrong to learn from your mistakes and get ready for the next passage.
