Minimum Wage
Lesson Introduction
Federal minimum wage is currently $7.25 per hour. Some states pay more while others are below that level. Should we raise minimum wage? Will it help low-wage workers or hurt the overall economy? We will attempt to answer these questions this week!

Start Here - Learning Goals
Each week, we will attempt to achieve a few learning goals. And it's always a good idea to start the learning process with an idea of what you are trying to accomplish. By the end of this week, you should be able to:
Summarize the opinion of those that are for and against raising the minimum wage
Express your opinion on the issue
Learning Activities
Vote in the pre-module poll
Watch the video introduction to minimum wage in Part 1
Do online research about minimum wage in Part 2
Summarize your findings in this week's writing activity in Part 3
Part 1 - Video Introduction to Minimum Wage
To get started, let's watch a short debate on the minimum wage. This video will introduce both sides of the debate (i.e. those that support and those that oppose raising the minimum wage). Remember, this is an online video, so you can pause, rewind, and re watch as much as you need until you understand both sides fully.
Part 2 - Online research
The internet is full of useful information. And being able to research and find good information is a fundamental skill in the 21st century. So let's get started. Your goal is to try to find 2 articles about minimum wage. The first should lay out the reason why someone SUPPORTS raising the minimum wage; the second should be about why someone OPPOSES raising the minimum wage. Be sure to save the articles as you will need them to complete Part 3.
You can try using Google to search for things like, "Why are people for raising the minimum wage?" Or, "Against the minimum wage." See what you can find. Remember, you might need to read through a few sites before you find what you are looking for.
Part 3 - Share your findings
To practice our writing skills, we will write a short, 3-paragraph summary each week. To get started, click the icon or link below!
