8 Tips for eLearn Success
A few things to think about as you find ways to be successful in an online program.
Stay on track with 3 hours per week - just like you if you were coming to campus, budget time to get online consistently! Stick to a study schedule, even if it's just a few hours per week. Maintaining a regular schedule will help you build confidence as you get into a good routine.
Participate in a conference once every 2 weeks - the conferences can be done by phone, instant message, or Google Hangouts, and they are a great way to share resources, set goals, and work together on the coursework.
Use a laptop/desktop - some work can be done on a mobile device but Khan Academy and Google Apps work best on a laptop or desktop. Click here for low-cost laptop options that are great for eLearn coursework!
Work in 25 minute phases - staying focused for a long time can be hard, especially with so many distractions around us (#Netflix #Facebook). Try working for 25 minutes and then taking a short break to get some coffee and walk around/stretch, and then come back focused and ready to work again!
Use Google Chrome, which is a free web browser that Khan Academy and Google Apps are optimized to work on. Click here for a free download of Google Chrome.
It's okay if you miss a few days - that's one of the benefits of an online class. If you miss a few days, just make sure to budget time to get back online and get caught up!
Communicate! If you miss a few days, or have a question, send a quick email or start a Gchat to Joey!
Reflect and seek learning! At the end of every week, ask yourself a few questions:
What did I do well this week?
What did I not do well this week and need to get better at next week
