Good Evening, eLearn Students,
Welcome back after the Thanksgiving holiday! I hope everyone had a relaxing break and is ready to get back into the online coursework! In this week's digest, you will find updates about:
Learning to Code
Office Hours Reminder
Setting a Khan Academy Goal
and Upcoming Coaching Sessions
Learning to Code
Next week, everyone will have an opportunity to participate in the "Hour of Code", a collaborative effort between Khan Academy, Microsoft, and other leading tech companies. Check your inboxes next Monday if you are interested in learning about how to build websites, databases, and/or to program using JavaScript. All students that participate (it's optional) will receive eLearn credit for successfully completing the introductory tutorials.
Office Hours Reminder
Do you have a question about a math problem? Do you want to learn about various MOOCs? Or do you want to connect online with a tutor to work one-on-one on any subject? Remember, online office hours are offered every week, so it's easy to join a Google Hangout or Gchat to talk about the eLearn Program. Online Office Hours are available:
Mondays, 10am-12pm
Tuesdays, 5-7pm
Click here for more information about Online Office Hours.
Khan Academy Goals
A few quick reminders about the math courses on Khan Academy:
Choose a course - You can choose which course you want to focus on; some students want to build foundational skills by working just on Early Math, Arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, and Basic Geometry. Others are pushing ahead into Algebra Basics, Algebra 1, and Geometry. Remember, its up to you, and it's perfectly okay to switch between courses and work on a few topics at the same time!
Try to stay consistent - Even just a few hours per week helps you maintain a positive routine. Set a goal of 2-4 hours per week!
Set measurable goals - You can track your progress easily in KA, so set a weekly goal. Do you want to finish 15% of the course this week? Are there specific skills you want to master? Setting specific goals can be motivating and keep you focused!
Upcoming Coaching Sessions
Check your inbox on Wednesday for an email from Darrell Creecy, the eLearn Success Coach. Darrell will be sharing a survey for you to provide feedback on your experience so far, and also details on how to schedule an online or phone-based coaching session.
As always, email me with any questions/comments, and I'll look forward to chatting with everyone soon!
~Joey
