Good Morning, eLearn Students,
Welcome to Week 2 of the current session! With the holidays fast approaching, this will be a short session that lasts for just a few more weeks before we break.
What is a session?
A session will last for 4-8 weeks and will be used to start and end courses. It doesn't mean much more than that, except that it will help you plan for when you want to enroll in courses. As discussed, starting shortly, there will be many course offerings. And, students will be able to pick and choose which courses they want to take. With a session that lasts for a specific amount of time, it will be easier to choose when you want to take a course and when you can look forward to a break from school between sessions!
Also included in this digest you will find:
Coming Up: Khan Academy: The Hour of Code
A new discussion board thread
A guide on how to start a Google chat/Hangout
Comments in Google Drive
Coming Up: Khan Academy's Hour of Code
Are you interested in learning how to code? Do you want to know how to build websites, mobile apps, and/or databases? If so, eLearn, in partnership with Khan Academy, will be offering an introductory course on each of these topics. These 2-3 hour introductory courses will be available in early December, so stay tuned for more details! #HourOfCode #MOOC
Discussion Board Thread
Let's start to get to know each other! Click here to access this week's discussion thread so you can share a few sentences about who you are and why you've decided to pursue a high school equivalency diploma! Due: Sunday, November 23rd by 9pm
How to Start a Google Chat/Hangout
Remember, online office hours will be held every Monday (10am-12pm) and Tuesday (5pm-7pm) using this link. I'm also usually online most of the day anyways, so feel free to just start a Gchat with me whenever you see me online. Click here to learn about how to start a Gchat.
Google Drive Comments
Those of you that submitted the weekly planner assignment have received feedback via Google Drive. You'll notice that feedback comes in the form of "comments", which makes it easy for me to share input directly in the document, and then we can start chatting as we look at the assignment. Click here to learn more about the comments feature in Google Drive.
And most importantly, when you share documents with me, be sure to share them as "Can Edit" and not "Can View." This enables me to share feedback much more easily.
As always, let me know if you've got any questions/comments, and enjoy Week 2!
~Joey
