In order to receive full credit for the activity, be sure to complete the following:
Learn about Google Keep in Part 1
Watch a video about creating better slideshows in Part 2
Create your slideshow guide in Part 3
Review your slideshow (making sure it includes all the required items) in Part 4
Share your slideshow with Joey in Part 5
Part 1 - Learn about Google Keep
Start now by getting familiar with Google Keep. You can either visit keep.google.com, or you can download the free Androd or iOS app. Remember, the best way to learn new software is to just play around with it. Click every button and see what happens. Learn from your mistakes. You can use Google and YouTube to search for how-to guides.
Part 2 - The 10-20-30 Rule
Many slideshows are... just terrible! Sometimes there are too many colors, or crazy animations, or font that is too small to read! To learn about effective slideshow strategies, check out this short video that introduces some rules to keep in mind!
Part 3 - Create a Slideshow Guide
Google Slides (another free product from Google) is a slideshow software. Your goal now is to create a slideshow that you will use to teach someone else how to use Google Keep.
When it comes to writing a good essay, or creating a good slideshow, it's all about purpose.
In other words, what do you hope to accomplish? Are you trying to convince someone to change their mind? Are you trying to teach someone how to use something?
Once you know the goal, you can then write an essay to accomplish that goal. Or for this activity, you can create a slideshow to teach someone how to use Google Keep. To get started, visit slides.google.com and click the "+" button to create a new presentation.
Part 4 - Checklist
First of all, always remember the goal! Imagine that you are teaching someone to use Google Keep, and they know NOTHING about it. What do they need to know to get started? What is Google Keep, why is it useful, and how do I use it? Be sure to answer these questions in your slideshow.
And in order to receive credit, make sure your slideshow includes each of the following:
5-10 slides (no more!)
A title on each slide
A picture on each slide (use screenshots!) and text
At least 1 screencast (this is a video with you talking over it - Screencastify is a great, free app for creating screencasts)
Transitions between each slide
Answer each of the following questions:
What is Google Keep?
Why is it useful?
How does it work including creating, sharing, archiving, and deleting items/lists
Brief discussion of browser and app versions
Remember, you may struggle with this at first since you are really learning how to use 2 pieces of software (Google Keep and Google Slides). It's okay to make mistakes and get angry at first! But stick with it; you will get there eventually, and you can always email me with questions.
Part 5 - Review and Share
Lastly, remember to review the checklist to be sure you've included all the required parts. Then, when you are finished, and if you think your slideshow will successfully teach someone how to use Google Keep, share it (using the blue share button) with Joey!
