About Lea
Hi! My name is Lea Downing and I am an English/Language Arts instructor in the eLearn program. I am originally from Louisville, Kentucky, but I have been living in New Orleans for about ten years.
I received my bachelor's from Sarah Lawrence College in 2007 with dual concentration in creative writing and ethnomusicology, and in 2014 I completed my master's in creative writing from the University of New Orleans.
I have been working in ELA education for over ten years, teaching classes ranging from poetry and fiction to academic and professional writing. Reading and writing fiction are two of my favorite activities, and I have a great love for music - both listening to and performing it - and the city of New Orleans makes it easy to do both regularly!
As a teacher I have a deeply-rooted belief that good education benefits all involved: both the teacher and the student. As such, I come to the classroom willing and hoping to gain new insight and understanding of the subject right along with you.
I'm in your corner, and always remember that I'm here to help you reach your goals in any way that I can!
