Responding to Student Introductions
Hello, eLearn coaches! Here's one of our first tasks for welcoming new students, and it's a great chance to start to meet our students and get a sense of where they are at in life and school!
All of you have been assigned a new group based on when you will attend Orientation. These students have (mostly) turned in a personal introduction as a pre-orientation activity. This allows them to introduce themselves, stay active online before school starts, and start practicing using Google Docs.
Here's how to get started with finding and responding to these assignments...
Objectives
To respond to your introductions from your new students (that completed this assignment - review it now so you are familiar with it)
To encourage students to practice using the comments feature in Google Docs
To start getting to know our new eLearn students!
Due: Please submit comments to all students in your folder before their orientation session
Estimated time to complete: 30-60 minutes
To get started
Open Google Classroom
Open our Orientation Section
Click on the "Introduction" Activity
Then open each student's Google Doc
Use the guide below to read and respond to each student!
Highlight and right-click to "Insert comment"
keyboard shortcut (CTRL + SHIFT + M)
Write 2-3 comments per student
1 comment can be specifically about what they've said (about school and/or career interests)
1 comment can be general about looking forward to getting started
1 comment can be a very brief introduction of yourself like, "Hey, I'm Joey and I'll be your coach in eLearn. I'm here to help you do well with online learning, so remember you can email me anytime you've got a question!"
You can also comment on anything digital that needs to be improved (i.e. naming the document, using spellcheck, etc.)
Lastly, say something like, "Hey thanks for getting started with your first assignment. My name is _____ and I will be your coach. I'm looking forward to meeting you in person soon, but for now, check out my comments below and try responding to 1 as a way to learn how to use the Comments feature in Docs. It's a great way for us to work on things together and also for you to work with your teachers once classes start. So let's practice using it now!"
Lemme know if you have any questions, and
more introductions will continue to arrive, so please monitor your folder throughout the week!
