Since its debut, "Serial", a weekly podcast, has consistently topped the iTunes charts at No. 1, and it boasts around 1 million listeners per episode. Fans all over the world, from California to London to Australia, tune in every Thursday to hear host Sarah Koenig unravel the mystery behind the 1999 murder of a Baltimore high school student. We will use the 12 podcasts, which can be streamed online for free, as the foundation for a 12-week unit. There will be weekly listening, reading, and writing assignments as we attempt to solve the puzzle of the 1999 tragic event.
Some of the skills we will be working on over the next few weeks include:
Critical thinking including evidence analysis
Using evidence to support written responses
The weekly assignments will take approximately 2 hours to complete, so be sure to budget the time to complete the activities and submit the weekly writing assignment (in addition to your weekly courses on Khan Academy). And as usual, every assignment will be released on Sunday and due the following Sunday by 9pm.
