The subject of my creation is a zentangle value strip that descends in color, from dark to light. I was given white strip of paper and told to make a one inch border, and inside the border make ten squares. Then Mrs. Medsker gave us a value key that demonstrated ten stages of dark grey to light grey. I followed the key and made my zentangle value strip with a black pen. I chose to make this specific artwork because made me feel free and creative. Elements and principles I used were line, contrast, value, and pattern. I used line throughout my value stripe by making designs, and making the lines thicker and thinner. I used contrast by using a dark color and leaving the white. I used value by descending in color value throughout my strip. I used pattern, by creating different patterns to make designs in my value strip.
A composition rule and technique I used was grouping, because my value strip descends in color, the dark and light colors form groups in the artwork. What I noticed in this particular project, was that in order to get the right amount of darkness or lightness, you needed to add lines to make it darker or draw less lines to make it lighter. This is how I evolved my project.
The meaning behind this artwork I think expresses who I am as a person, I try to be creative, funny, and happy all the time. This artwork explains exactly that. This project relates to my life because like my life, this artwork looks very busy and chaotic, and I am always on the run and going place to place, it seems like I never have a break or time off to anything. If I could change this artwork, I would make it more neat, and less messy, I thought I was crunching on time, but really I had two more days to work on it. I would also like to make my value strip a little more detailed, and define thicker lines and thinner lines in the value strip to make it stronger.
