Gracie #2
8" x 10"
The story behind this piece is about the person in the picture and what she is reacting to. I drew my friend gracie and as off of a picture she took of herself and the reaction to the lighting. This project relates to my life because this is one of my best friends and I wanted to draw her because I liked how the picture turned out and she is one of the only models I have.
I made this work on drawing paper and I then graphed the photo in inches and the paper in inches and taped up the border of the c paper so as not to make a mess on it. I then sketched out the picture using the graphing method and finally when I was done with that, I focused on the colors and tones in her face and made layers and layers of colored pencil until i was satisfied with how it turned out.
I shaded in this piece adding highlights and shadows and adding values with lights and darks. I grouped up the dark parts of her hair and face and the light parts of her hair and face. I then colored them separately. In the future if I do this again, I think I might push the contrast more like in my inquiry question and burnish the colored pencils more. I was afraid to do this because I had never really used colored pencils before, but for the most part I am satisfied with how this piece turned out especially with my lack of experience.
