Although these aren't the greatest pictures, because it was hard to capture a clear picture through the mason jar, the subject of my creation is a jar filled with hanging sea creatures. This work was made by sculpting marine life animals with Sculpey and hot gluing them to a piece of yarn. I then poked holes into the top of the mason jar with scissors and pulled the string through and tied knots at the top so they wouldn't fall. Specific elements and principles I used were shape in order to sculpt the animals and balance by strategically placing the hanging animals so that it looked balanced.
Some composition rules and techniques I used in my artwork are, formal balanced like I explained before by strategically placing the animals, grouping by grouping all of the animals together to form the artwork, and framing by using the mason jar as the fram fo my art. At first I was going to sew something for this project, and the I realized that I actually don't really know how to sew, so I randomly thought of this project and I stuck with it.
The meaning behind this artwork is to keep in mind that all sea creatures are equal no matter the shape, size, or appearance. This project related to my life because i love the ocean and the animals in it. I think that they are so cool which is why I chose this concentration. If I could change anything about this artwork, I would add more animals, because I knew that I was going to make five animals, but when I put the piece together if felt like there should be more. Also, I would add a painting of water or waves on the outside and add some sand in the inside of the jar to add more to the project, since it kind of feels like something is missing.
