The subject of my creation is a jellyfish. I made this by taking two plastic bottles out of the recyclables and cut them up. I cut one end off of one of the bottles for the head/body of the jellyfish and I cut up the legs of the jellyfish by cutting the bottles into strips. The strips alone didn't look long enough for the legs, so I hot glued to strips together. And in order to make my adhesive look long enough, I put a line of hot glue down the center of each leg which melted the plastic and made them look more like tentacles. I used contrast with short and long legs. And line, with the tentacles and the strip of glue down the center.
I used formal balance because at first i was just going to use one whole bottle for the jellyfish but then the tentacles looked weird and it seemed like there wasn't enough. So I cut up another water bottle. I also used grouping with the tentacles and the head/body. At first for this project, I was going to make a whale out of cloth and sew it, but that was going to take too long and so I just made this instead and I thought it turned out ok.
The meaning of this artwork is to help save the marine life. We throw away a lot of plastic that we never think about and it really can harm the ocean life. This project relates to my life because I really love aquatic animals and jellyfish are one of my favorites because they just look so cool and they can some really cool things. One thing I would change about this project would be to take of some of the excess adhesive from the tentacles that you can still see, and it looks a little messy which is inevitable but it was fun to make anyway.
