Gelatin Prints

The subject of my art work is four Gelatin Prints on that I manipulated and made it into something different. The work was made by pouring a glob of dark blue ink with a palette knife onto a tray and rolled it out with a roller. After I rolled it out until it was sticky, i gathered random materials put a piece of paper on the table then a sheet of glass and placed the random materials on the sheet of glass. I then rolled some ink onto a jelly pad that I put on the piece of glass and put another piece of paper on the jelly pad and rubbed the paper down. I took the paper off to then have a cool print, I then made two more prints, one with more detail, and another called the ghost print which is very light. Once given directions to chose a print out of the 9 that we had made, I chose on that had a hallow circle in it. I chose to make a fair ground with a big ferris wheel and put it right next to a crow off in the distance. I liked this idea, because fairs always make me feel happy and I always love a lot of the rides, so I thought why not? Specific elements and principles I used in my artwork are, texture as you can see in most of the prints the e texture from the materials really pops out and shows depth and different values. I also used contrast as you can see mostly in the manipulated print before I added more color, the dark blue and the white contrast each other.

Some composition rules and techniques that are showcased in my artwork are, informal balance as I placed objects in different areas not really paying total attention to the composition of the prints making them have informal balance. I also used grouping by placing different materials together on different sides of the paper forming different groups. One way my manipulated gelatin print evolved was by adding color. I thought to myself about what came to mind when I thought of a fair especially the ferris wheel, was color you can have a fair without lights and color.

The meaning behind this artwork specifically talking about the manipulated gelatin print is just to feel free, one of the things I think of when I think about a fair, is freedom. You get to go on all of the rides with your friends and your parents just follow or go somewhere totally different, and you can do almost anything you want. This related to my life because, it's almost a tradition to go to at least one fair with either my mom or dd, and hang out, eat fried dough., and feel free from the stress of school work. If I could change anything about my artwork I would add more destinations and rides in the trails for my manipulated gelatin print.
