Pumpkin Carving

The subject of my artwork is a jar of fireflies with fireflies flying out of it. I used a knife to carve out the jar a scoop like knife to carve out the wings of the fireflies, and a drill to drill holes in the pumpkin for the firefly bodies . If you look close enough, you can see them to the right of the jar. I chose this specific artwork because it looked really nice and appealing to eyes. Elements and principals I used in this carving are, contrast, I used his by carving out the whole jar on the left, and the tiny wholes for the fireflies on the right, as the contrast each other.

A composition rule I used was "balance," I used balance by carving the jar out on the left, and making the fireflies on the right. Something that I revised in my drawing was making sure that fireflies were scattered all over the pumpkin, and not just crammed close together in a tiny space.

I think the meaning behind this artwork is letting go. In the carving the jar is letting go of the fireflies in the world and they can be free. Sometimes you having something that is bothering you, and you just need to let go, so you can breathe and calm yourself down. This project does not relate to my life because I never let go of my problems, i always keep them inside, and I either get angry, upset, or worried. Which is not good, and letting go is something that I need to work on. Something that I would change in my artwork, if I had more time, would be to carve a little more out of the fireflies wings so you can see them better, and drill bigger holes for the bodies of the fireflies so you can see them better.
