Sustained Investigation #12

Celia

7.75" x 10"

The story behind this piece is about my friend Celia and colors around her face and the background. I took a picture of Celia and payed attention to the values and highlights in her face. I new that I wanted to use oil pastels but I wanted to incorporate more color and contrast to answer my inquiry question. This project relates to my life because this is one of my good friends and I wanted to take a picture of her because I love her and I think people should see the her colorful personality and the beautiful human being she is everywhere and through art.

I knew I wanted to use pastels but I didn't really know how to use them. It was hard to add colors that weren't actually in the picture so I had to pay close attention to the values in her face. I colored in the background with two different solid colors and added texture with a screwdriver to add detail but make it simple and something that doesn't take away from the subject.

I made this project with the objective in mind that I wanted to focus on color and contrast to answer my inquiry question. I would say that I achieved this goal and my use of color and contrast is very relevant. Next time when I make a project I would add different colors because I don't like the colors I used that much.
