Lucky Charm Earrings

1" x .5" x .25"

I tried to convey the nostalgic feeling of these earrings from when you were a kid sitting at breakfast with your lucky charms and saving the marshmallows for last so you could taste the sweet crunchiness for last, I know that's what I did. I used to always spend 10 extra minutes sifting through my lucky charms so that I saved the best for last,

With the work, I looked at a reference photo of specific lucky charms like the rainbow and the moon charm and I tried to match the colors as closely as I could but being as these were reference photos and not real life, it was harder to do so. I took sculpey and mixed different colors and shaped them the way I wanted to. I tried to make them look symmetrical but it was particularly hard to do as 3D art is not my favorite type of art which this project made me remember from last year. After I finished molding the earrings, I poked a hole in the top for the jump hoop to go through and I baked them in the toaster oven for around 20 minutes at 250° F. When they were solid, I made jump hoops for my earrings out of one of the earring templates in the kit I had, I them attached them to the dangly part of the earring and they were finished. This was actually the hardest part as when I first tried this I broke the earrings but as I got the hang of it, it became a lot easier and faster.

When I first started to put the earrings together, I tried to use a real jump hoop, but the jump hoops were to small, so I had to come up with a new idea to attach earrings to the dangly part. My project evolved from one set of earrings to two as I kept going with my project, I realized I had time to make two of them. My next steps when making these could be to move the hole in the earring closer to the top of the actual earring so that I don't risk breaking the earrings again.
