Doughnut
6.75" x 7"
The story behind this piece is about the person who ate the doughnut. He/she left everything but one bite, maybe he/she was in a hurry, or maybe he/she had han emergency who knows. But doesn't it leave you questioning? This project relates to my life because I love doughnuts for breakfast, but I never have actually ever had a doughnut for breakfast so that is why I gave a story behind this doughnut.
I made this work on watercolor paper using a 6H graphite pencil to sketch it out and prisma colored pencils to color everything in and shade highlights and shadows.
I didn't add a background in this piece to create space, I shaded adding highlights and shadows creating values and contrast. Since I colored and shaded on watercolor paper I added texture to this piece. I was going to make this piece with water colors but I didn't want to risk messing up and starting over, and since I had never used colored pencils before, I decided that I should use them as an experiment to see if I liked them or not. I could add a background next time if I wanted to, but I think if I make this artwork again, I am going to paint it, and add sprinkles to.
