Macro Leaf

The subject of my artwork is a zoomed in dandelion. I made this with a 2H pencil, watercolor and acrylic paint. I first sketched out the dandelion with a 2H pencil, then painted it with water color. After I was done with this, I then painted the background light blue. I chose this specific artwork because I knew I didn't want to a leaf. I didn't want to do a leaf because I thought they were ugly, and it would be prettier if I did a dandelion. Specific elements and principles I used were, balance since the composition of this piece is in the center. I also used, color throughout the artwork but specifically the background. I made it pop with the light blue color.

Some composition rules and techniques I used were, formal balance as I said before that the dandelion is placed in the middle of the composition. I also used rule of thirds because the blue background takes up 1/3 and the 3/3 section while the dandelion takes up the 2/3 section and a little bit more, but for the most part, the composition is split up in thirds. My project evolved because at first, the dandelion was much smaller and then I made it much bigger so that it was zoomed in more.

The meaning behind this artwork is to have fun and just live your life. As you can see with the bright colors that make up the artwork look very free and wild portraying to just live your life. This project relates to my life because it reminds me of when I was a lot younger and would make "porcupine soup" with my brother and one of my friends and cut up dandelions for the porcupines around our neighborhood. If there was one thing I would change about this it would be to make a more solid background. At first when I made it I thought that the background looked pretty good, and now that I see it in the picture it doesn't look at steady as I thought it was.
