Sustained Investigation #6

Hungry

8.5" x 11"

The story behind this piece is how someone is suffering from anorexia. You can tell this from her ribs showing and the one spinach leave on the plate next to her. This project relates to my life because I know that lot of people, mostly girls my age will suffer from some sort of eating disorder and it is really sad to see someone go through something like that.

With this project, I used watercolors which I typically don't use so it was a little harder than usual. I used and mixed blues, and reds, an oranges, browns, and yellows to make this piece. I sketched it out with a 6H graphite pencil and I then shaded and found different techniques to use watercolor. And I ended up teaching myself the ways I like to use them.

I used line and space and value and emphasis to create this project. I used lines for the spinal cord so that people would notice it more as well as I used my space to evoke more emotion with the practically empty plate besides her. I also used value to emphasize the different use in colors. And I used emphasis especially with her ribs and spine with the colors making them darker and making them stand out more and seem more important which they are. My project evolved as I changed my inquiry question to, "Why is breakfast the most important meal of the day?" to, "How do relationships change someone's happiness?" And this changed my path and subject. Further steps that i could take in the future might be, adding texture or patterns in the background to make it less boring.
