Sustained Investigation #14

Charlie

5.75" x 7.25"

The story behind this piece is about my dog Charlie. I took this picture of Charlie and payed attention to the values and highlights in it because they are super vibrant and crisp. Although they are not exotic colors, the colors that are in the photo pop. At first I wanted to paint this picture but it wasn't turning out the way I wanted it to so I used the photo instead. This project relates to my life because this is my dog and i wanted everyone to see how cute he is.

At first I wanted to paint this photo and by the time i had already spent four hours working on it, it was not even halfway done and I really didn't like the way it was turning out. So I decided to use thephoto instead because i really like the way I edited it. What I really like about the photo is how the sun reflects off of the fur on his chest and it gleams on the wall behind him and the pillows adding a cool effect. I also really like the blue from my sheets because they pop and contrast with the color of his fur. I changed the contrast in the photo, added a slight filter and adjusted the yellow tones to make the colors more vibrant and I did this all on my phone.

I made this project with the objective in mind that I wanted to focus on color and contrast to answer my inquiry question. I would say that I achieved this goal but not to the extent that I really wanted to. I wish I could've used my painting because I like painting omre but I think that the photo looks good too. Next time, I think I would practice painting more before I do a big project like this because I haven't painted in a while and it shows.
