Faces
14.74" x 33"
The story behind this piece is about my jeans and the faces on them. What they represent and who they are. I bought these jeans a while back with the hopes of one day paint them. And I thought what better time than to paint them now. Although they are not exotic and vibrant colors, the colors that are in the faces pop, especially the blue. This project relates to my life because those faces, are three of my favorite performing artists. I like this aspect of it because no one knows they are my favorite artists. All they see are faces.
At first I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted to paint on the jeans but I didn't know what. And then I remembered that my inquiry question is based on portraits and I've always wanted to do a blind contour in my concentration but I didn't think I was good at them and my mind doesn't work like that. So I looked up different blind contour drawings and I sort of got an idea of how to make it look good. Once I did that I looked at pictures of the artists I like and added highlights and shadows and added a pop of color with blue to help answer my question. I sketched the faces out on paper and poked tiny holes in the paper in order to transfer it onto the jeans. I then painted on the jeans using acrylic paint and placed them the way I thought looked nice.
I made this project with the objective in mind that I wanted to focus on color and contrast to answer my inquiry question. I would say that I achieved this goal but not to the extent that I really wanted to. I wish I could've added more color in someway but I couldn't find a way that I liked. In the future if I do this again, I would want to add more color or make more faces.
