The subject of my artwork is a wire sculpture of a flower. So the first thing I did when making this was I cut out a piece of 20 gage wire as big as the stem of my fake flower reference. I then made the leaves with 20 gage wire and added detailing to them with the 28 gage wire, the I made circles for the flowers and connected them to the stem. I chose to create this specific artwork because it reminded me of my grandmother and I just thought it would be cool to create a flower out of wire. Specific elements and principles I used were line by adding detail to the leaves and the line is represented throughout the whole flower I also used contrast when I made the leaves. I did this by using the 20 gage wire to create the leave itself then I used the 28 gage wire for the detailing making the big and small wire contrast with each other.
Composition rules and techniques I used in this artwork was, framing by making a frame for the leaves of the flower and the petals of the flower, I also used grouping by grouping the leaves together and the petals of the flower together on the whole flower. I evolved this project by making the flower petals more "Dr. Seuss" like instead of making individual flower petals because I was afraid it would look more like the leaves than flower petals.
The meaning behind this artwork is to always keep close the things that remind you of your loved ones. Like this flower reminds me of my grandmother. This is because after she died, we were cleaning out her house and there was a bouquet of fake flowers outside that she had owned, I asked my mom if I could keep them, and I've had them in my room every since. If there was one thing that I would change, it would be the flower petals. I really don't like how they turned out, and instead I would've used the 28 gage wire instead to make the flower petals look like petals instead of circles.
