The subject of my creation is a turtle about to eat a plastic bag mistaking it for a jellyfish. I made this artwork by sketching it out with a 2H pencil and then adding details and filling it in with watercolor. I chose to create this specific artwork because I feel passionate about pollution specifically water pollution and plastic in the ocean. Specific elements and principles I used in this artwork was, shape with the pasic bags, and the scales on the turtle, I also used movement by showing how the turtle is going to reach for the plastic bag by placing the turtles body upward and looking at the plastic bag.
Composition rules and techniques I used in this artwork was, formal balance by distributing the plastic bags and the turtle evenly throughout the page. I also used grouping with the bags in the water grouped together above the turtle. My project evolved by changing my idea many times till I found an idea that I liked and after I found an idea I liked, I started over again because I didn't like the materials I was using before which was paint and I didn't like how it was turning out, so I started over and made this one.
The meaning of this artwork is to reduce the plastic in the ocean because it harms so many lives we might think about including our own lives. The project relates to my life because I am really passionate about pollution and plastic in our water because it can really harm aquatic life and us as well which is a really big deal and by the time we actually start to make a change and start helping, it'll be too late. One thing I would change about this artwork is making the plastic bags more realistic and more definable so that people can tell what the message is better.
