While on the clock, you represent KidSpirit through your actions and appearance. It is important to appear professional at all times, which is why KidSpirit enforces a strict dress code. Please ask the Leadership team member in your department if you have any questions.
Clothing must be neat, clean, and free of wrinkles.
Do not wear KidSpirit apparel while promoting or participating in work-inappropriate activities such as drinking or smoking - even off-shift.
Work in clothing with prints and shapes appropriate for children:
Clothing should NOT show or advertise alcohol or tobacco (including logos) or adult activities (including risqué images.)
Clothing should NOT show an excessive amount of skin. (See expectations for shorts and for dress-up days.)
Piercings and tattoos may be visible as long as they are appropriate and suitable for children.
Wear a staff t-shirt at all times while on shift.
Purchase enough staff t-shirts to wear an appropriate shirt at every shift, based on your laundry habits.
Ensure that the word "staff" on the back of your t-shirt is visible at all times.
Wear the sleeves of your t-shirt unfolded.
Long-sleeve shirts, sweaters, undershirts, etc may be worn underneath the staff t-shirt.
Hats are appropriate as long as they do not violate other expectations.
Appropriate bottoms vary slightly by department, but include:
Appropriate athletic pants (including sweatpants, track pants, basketball shorts, thick and appropriately shaped leggings, etc. Thin leggings and tight leggings are not appropriate.)
Shorts that fall to the mid-thigh, or 2inches or more below your fingers.
Skirts that fall to the mid-thigh, with leggings or appropriate shorts underneath.
Dress pants
Denim fabric is NOT acceptable in the dress code (including blue jeans, dyed jeans, jean shorts, overalls, denim hats, etc.)
Skin higher than the lower thigh should NOT be visible. This includes mesh "windows" in athletic pants.
Wear comfortable closed-toed, closed-heeled athletic shoes (except in the pool or gymnastics room).
Wear clothing with NO zippers, buttons or rivets while in the gymnastics room.
Wear athletic pants, or athletic shorts to mid-thigh or longer.
Loose athletic clothing (like basketball shorts) should be worn with tighter athletic shorts underneath (for the sake of fabric movement during handstands, cartwheels or flips.)
You must be barefoot (preferable) or wear clean athletic shoes while in the gymnastics room.
If it is raining and you do not have access to purchase a KidSpirit staff raincoat, you can cover your staff t-shirt with a raincoat. This is the only appropriate time to cover the word "staff" on the back.
Appropriate pants include hiking pants, twill/Carhart pants, etc.
Hiking boots may be helpful to you in rainy or wet weather.
Hair must be pulled back or fully covered.
An apron must be worn while working in the kitchen.
All persons on the pool deck and swimming in the pool must have proper swim attire.
Swim Instructor Dress Code:
All instructors must wear swimsuits appropriate for swimming and teaching. Swimsuits should provide complete coverage of the chest area and offer secure, comfortable support during instruction. Instructors may choose from one-piece swimsuits, long tankini tops tucked into bottoms or swim trunks based on personal preference and comfort. 🩱 🩳 Swim attire should be made of.
polyester, PBT, and/or Lycra
Instructors should wear clean, water-safe footwear on the pool deck, such as clean sandals, or be barefoot. Athletic or street shoes are not permitted on the pool deck for safety and hygiene reasons.
Pool Deck: clean cotton t-shirts and sarongs are allowed on the pool deck; however, staff and swimmers must wear proper swim attire underneath.
The following attire is not allowed.
Brazil/French Cut, thong style or revealing swimwear, cut-off jeans, skirts, shorts, sports bras, leotards, leggings, dri-fit wear, compression shorts, and shirts are prohibited. Underwear and undergarments are not allowed to be worn under swimsuits.
Note on Infants and toddlers:
All infants and toddlers who require a diaper must wear swimmer diapers, and proper swimwear overtop of the swim diaper.
"Why do I have to wear proper swimwear?"
Here are a few reasons why it is important to wear proper pool attire in the pool.
Street clothes (especially cotton) can transport airborne and ultimately water-borne contaminants into the pool.
Lycra and Nylon are the best non-absorbent material for swimming and are the best fabrics for proper swim attire.
Cotton can break down int he water and cause fibers to clog filters.
Any "colored" material (unless specifically made for swimming) can bleed into the pool, affecting water chemistry and balance causing turbidity in the pools.
Cotton and similar materials can absorb the chemicals in the water, making the water less effective at maintaining the proper chemical balance or clouding the water.
The last day of each week will be a dress-up day with a different theme. Staff must dress up. If a staff member comes to work out of costume, a costume will be provided from the KidSpirit closet.
Staff must still wear closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes.
Staff must wear an outfit that allows for the full actualization of your position's duties.
Wear appropriate clothing which is fun while remaining professional and does not reveal excessive skin. This includes...
Shorts and skirts must still fall to the mid-thigh or 2in. Or more below your fingers.
NO spaghetti-strap tank tops
NO excessively low necklines
NO revealed midriff
At the conclusion of each term (Fall, Winter, & Spring), when all recreational and camp programs have concluded, staff members with assigned shifts, projects, and/or tasks are allowed to wear open-toed shoes and denim. However, it is important to adhere to all other general guidelines and refrain from wearing denim with any holes. Furthermore, it is not permitted to wear denim with the KidSpirit Staff Shirt.
Please note that the Dress Code should still be followed during the following situations:
End of term staff evaluations
Interviews
PAC classes
During these specific instances, staff members are expected to adhere to the regular Dress Code guidelines as specified by the organization.
