During summer camp, Camp Counselors (CCs), Counselors in Training (CITs), and Teen Leaders (TLs) serve as Aquatic Aids, supporting Swim Instructors in and out of the water. In-water responsibilities include ensuring camper safety on the wall, supporting swimmers as they practice skills, and assisting instructors by standing nearby and providing help as needed. Aquatic Aids should always be active participants in lessons and should never hang on the wall unengaged. They are expected to seek guidance from Swim Instructors on how best to assist with each class.
Out of the water, Aquatic Aids assist with transitioning campers between the pool and locker rooms, encourage positive behavior, and escort campers to the restroom when needed. There should be one male and one female present per class to support campers as appropriate.
Some Camp Counselors who demonstrate strong aquatics knowledge and teaching ability may be trained to lead their own classes. The Aquatics Supervisor provides these Counselors with lesson plans, skill evaluations, and final evaluations to complete for their students.
Aquatic Aids are integral to ensuring the smooth and safe operation of swim lessons and maintaining an engaging learning environment for all campers.
