Teach and have archers help with an equipment check during each class. Checklists will be printed in the Emergency Binder.
Follow range safety procedures
Be alert for safety concerns
Place signs for bikers/walkers and be ready to give verbal directions if needed.
Lesson Planning - Sessions are 10 classes, spread out over two 5-day weeks at camp.
See the KidSpirit Drive for archived plans and activities - Every session, you should be swapping out some games and activities to keep things fresh! The general structure for each session should remain the same, with a larger focus on safety for the first day of each session (every two weeks).
Before each session starts, you should have a lesson for each day planned out/
In the KS Drive, duplicate the plans you used, put them in the Current Year's Drive Folder for SDC Archery, and update times of classes, which day each lesson is for, etc in these duplicates. This way, if you have a subsitute, they can easily pick up where you left off.
Retrieve supplies from Equipment Closet - Target carts, arrows, bows - As many as necessary
Do not take the larger bows - those are for college (PAC) students! If they feel heavy to you (more than 15 pounds), they are likely not for children.
Set out quivers with three to five arrows in them (dependable on size of class)
For a normal class size (20 kids), have 3 Arrows/child, and 2 children/Stall
Check arrows before you distribute them
Tips are screwed on tight
Fletching's are all attached - Arrows can operate with 2/3, but do not use arrows with 0 or 1 fletchings.
Shaft is sturdy with no splintering
Set out orange cones (if available), one on the far left side of the range in-between the gate and the other on the far right of the range, to prevent people from walking through.
Retrieve laminated signs to hook up on the ends of the range - These signs remind passerby to stay out!
Before Day Of Class - Preparation for Transport
Fill out these forms (ask supervisor/leadership for help if necessary)
If using campus vehicle - Motorpool rental/Driver permission form
Weapon transport form
Item Check In/Out - Exact amount of bows, arrows, etc taken (include type/serial number for bows)
Day Of Class - Arrive at Langton Hall no later than 45 minutes before CHECK IN begins - E.E. Wilson is a 20+ Minute Drive from Langton Hall!
If check-in begins at 9am at E.E. Wilson, aim to be at Langton at 8:15, and be loaded up and on the way to E.E. Wilson by 8:30. That way, you arrive at E.E. Wilson before 9am. Class would likely start at 9:10. Check in time is EARLIER THAN CLASS START TIME, so factor in the set up/check in into your plans!
Load up designated driver's car:
Archery Binder
First Aid kit
Bows
Take note of what bows your students use. Do you need more compounds than recurves? Do you have left handed students?
Arrows
Quivers
Arrive at E.E. Wilson no later than 15 minutes before class begins - This is when check in happens - If your class starts at 9:15, that means check in starts at 9, so be there before 9!
String bows and distribute arrows before your class arrives.
Keep track of time, follow lesson plan
Delegate tasks to CCs, TLs as necessary
Manage behavior/safety
Manage behavior
