Swim Instructors are the backbone of the KidSpirit Aquatics program. They plan and deliver swim lessons in alignment with American Red Cross protocols, manage individual classes, and actively engage with campers. Professionalism, initiative, and adaptability are essential, including tailoring lesson plans to meet the needs of each class. Swim Instructors are expected to fully enter the water with each class, including submerging their head and hair, demonstrating skills, and participating in warm-up activities.
They are responsible for tracking student progress, documenting swimmer levels for Ideal-Logic, and completing behavioral and incident reports as needed. Any unusual facility issues should be reported directly to the Aquatics Supervisor.
Locker room responsibilities differ between regular programming and summer camp:
During regular programming, Swim Instructors monitor the locker rooms on their own, ensuring that each swimmer meets their guardian after class and that no unauthorized individuals are present. During the school year, swim instructors are NOT responsible for getting the swimmers changed.Â
During summer camp, Swim Instructors assist Camp Counselors in preparing campers for lessons and helping them transition between the pool and other camp activities. Two staff members must be present in the locker room whenever campers are there during camp.
Swim Instructors also ensure equipment is properly cared for and maintained. During summer camp, Camp Counselors, CITs, and Teen Leaders provide additional assistance as needed in and out of the water, supporting smooth transitions and maintaining a positive learning environment.
