Assistant Instructors/Camp Counselors are responsible for supervising the safety and care of all children assigned to their group, developing and maintaining consistent discipline procedures, providing organized and enjoyable transitions between activity sites, encouraging participation in all activities, fostering a positive environment for all children, and instilling a sense of group unity and cohesion. You should have more fun and be more responsible than necessary. Camp Counselor is under the administration and supervision of Program Specific Leadership and KidSpirit.
Must be 14.5 years of age or older.
Currently registered as a student.
Have knowledge and experience working with groups of children grades K-8th.
Current First Aid, CPR Adult/Child.
Complete the Introduction to Child Care Health and Safety training (ICCHS).
Complete the Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) training.
Complete Foundations for Learning (FFL) training.
Complete and pass a Criminal History Check.
Orientation session (academic year: post-hiring; summer: pre-interview).
Weekly staff meetings (summer only).
In-service trainings (TBA).
Ensure SAFETY and respect for self, for others, for the environment, and for property.
Encourage participation and group cohesiveness.
Maximize self-behavioral responsibility of each child.
Ensure safety of participants.
Follow the schedule of activities.
Provide a creative atmosphere with emphasis on learning and safety.
Co-instructing, equipment set-up and clean-up, and supervising scheduled activities for each class.
Provide corrective feedback and positive reinforcement of camper’s skills and progress.
Be flexible in learning and teaching new activities.
Accurate and up to date records on all campers and activities for the current session.

Weekly job specific evaluations and recommendations for change.
Time off requests, if applicable (before the first week of camp).
Appropriate incident and accident reports.
Print, submit, sign and turn in timesheet at end of shift on the 15th of each month.
Carry first aid kit at all times and know location of nearest first aid station.
Re-stock materials for first aid kit as necessary.
Administer first aid promptly; if medical attention is needed, activate the emergency action steps.
In the event of an emergency, ensure campers are properly supervised.
Take precautions to avoid sunburn, dehydration, and heat exhaustion.
