The Aquatics Supervisor ensures the smooth and efficient operation of the KidSpirit aquatics program year-round. They oversee staff training, pool safety, proper lesson planning, and maintain a fun and safe environment. The Aquatics Supervisor observes lessons to ensure classes follow the provided lesson plans, maintain an engaging and safe atmosphere, and show clear progression. Feedback is given during lessons when appropriate, during transition periods, or after lessons. The Aquatics Supervisor must introduce themselves to each class to foster comfort and familiarity with swimmers.
The Aquatics Supervisor manages both Langton and Women’s Building pool operations, ensuring smooth scheduling and coordination, checking for conflicts, and communicating changes to staff. They are also responsible for addressing lifeguard issues through the Guard Station at 541-737-4306. Program information, lesson plans, and skill sheets are maintained on SharePoint, ensuring staff have easy access to resources and consistent training delivery. Camper-to-staff ratios are based on class levels, with Pre-Pollywog classes at 1:10, Pollywog 1–3 at 1:5, Level 1–3 at 1:6, and Level 4–6 generally around 1:8 but may vary based on needs.
Summer Responsibilities
During the summer, the Aquatics Supervisor manages both regular programming swim lessons and swim lessons during summer camps. They work closely with co-directors (s) to adjust staff levels based on camper enrollment and special needs. Camp Counselors (CCs), Counselors in Training (CITs), and Teen Leaders (TLs) assist in swim classes and are trained on how to best support lessons. Their involvement provides extra help to instructors when necessary and ensures a smooth, engaging learning experience for all campers.
School Year Responsibilities
During the school year, the Aquatics Supervisor continues to support and collaborate with Swim Instructors and Head Swim Instructors but with fewer staff available since CCs, CITs, and TLs are not present. The focus remains on maintaining lesson quality, safety, and progression while adapting to the leaner staffing structure.
