KidSpirit is a unit within the Division of Extension and Engagement. The mission of KidSpirit is to be a leader in providing young people with intentional, high quality, equitable learning experiences that promote positive interactions among adults and peers. KidSpirit prides itself in challenging its employees to grow as individuals while gaining professional experience.
KidSpirit Leadership Team is responsible for the daily operations and staff in their specific program area. Duties will include organization, supervision and program development to ensure superior quality across all KidSpirit programs.

Program Registration & Class Support
Monitor class enrollment and make necessary staffing adjustments, facility adjustments, and cancel/combine classes to maintain appropriate student/staff ratios
Complete, signed and accounts paid before the first day of lessons
Coordinate with the program coordinator and office to ensure the next session is open and ready for registration by week 5 of each term
Communicate daily with gymnastics participants and parents
Staff Scheduling & Resources
Schedule instructor staff into Ideal-Logic, monitor and assign substitutes as necessary
Provide each staff with accurate attendance sheets for each session
Update attendance of rec classes periodically
Prepare rec class folders for each session
Collaborate with office staff to maintain program emergency binder and ensure binder is always current with the program
Equipment & Facilities
Oversee organization and cleanliness of all gymnastics locations
Ensure the gymnastics room first aid kit is appropriately stocked
Communicate with building manager about any facility concerns related to the gymnastics room
Reserve facilities for special events and staff appropriate staff
Lesson Plans, & Progress Reports
Ensure all participants receive a certificate at the end of the class session
Ensure staff lesson plans teach skills that build towards mastery/success of sport/activity.
Support staff to provide emotional safety, provides a positive and caring environment, while focusing on skill development, SAFETY, increasing self-confidence, self-esteem, and creating a fun atmosphere
Collaborate with staff to keep Lesson Plan Templates in Ideal-logic current skills, drills, & execution
Track lesson plans are completed 1 weeks in advance progress reports are completed within an hour of end of class completion and support staff as needed
Safety
Ensure behavioral and first aid concerns with participants are resolved professionally and promptly
Staff Training
Hold gymnastics staff meetings and supplemental trainings as necessary
Adequately train gymnastics staff in safety, class management, lesson planning, knowledge of gymnastics skills, and emergency procedures specific to the gymnastics room
Collaborate in identifying and mentoring future gymnastics leaders
Staff Supervision
Monitor productivity of gymnastics staff while on the clock
Ensure gymnastics instructors are teaching level appropriate gymnastics skills in proper progressions
Staff Evaluations & Feedback
Evaluate gymnastics staff using Gymnastics Instructor Evaluation template often (goal of one per day)
Give daily specific positive and constructive feedback to Gymnastics Staff and Camp Counselors in the gymnastics room
Elicit and follow up on feedback from gymnastics staff
Prepare midterm and end of term evaluations using the appropriate templates and schedule meeting times with gymnastics staff in weeks 5-6 and 11-12 to administer evaluations
Review each evaluation with Directors and/or Assistant Directors for editing and approval
Family & Participant Evaluation & Feedback
Administer end of the term parent evaluations at the end of each session and include anonymously in end of term staff evaluations
Elicit and follow up on feedback from parents and participants
Collect parent feedback and evaluations
Follow up with issues concerning gymnastics in a timely and professional manner
Program
Meet regularly with program coordinator to address issues and concerns, share successes
Create a professional and pleasant atmosphere in all gymnastics locations
Ensure web page is up to date and relevant
Communicate on canceled classes or holidays
Write and distribute newsletter to rec parents/guardians
Talk to parents about their child’s progress as well as programs available through KidSpirit such as REC classes, summer camp, ACES and Birthday parties
Communication
Communicate with other staff as necessary including prompt responses to all KidSpirit staff’s emails and phone calls.
Complete and turn in the following documents:
Appropriate incident and accident reports
Monthly time sheets
Complete Progress Reports for each child at the end of each term
File and Mail reports as necessary
Other paperwork as needed
Must be registered as a degree seeking student (college or high school)
Evident commitment to cultural diversity and educational equity
Current, valid CPR (adult/child) and First Aid certification by the start of programming.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) certification by start of programming.
Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety certification by start of programming.
This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Weekly work hours are a maximum of 20 hours per week during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms, with a minimum expectation of 15 hours per week. A maximum of 20-40 hours per week may be worked during the summer, based on student’s summer enrollment.
Position includes some work on evenings and weekends, in addition to office work hours.
Leadership staff may need to demonstrate proper participation alongside head instructors. This may include lifting, turning, twisting, stepping up, etc based on the physical activity movement.
Leadership staff may need to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time, no greater than 50 minutes at one time.
The employee in this position will often be required to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and push and/or pull carts weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work environment can be noisy.

A Leadership Team Member is responsible for a specific program area. Within that area, a Leadership Team Member will be required to monitor program specific class enrollment, facilities and paperwork, manage student staff, and provide customer service. Leadership will be expected to monitor payroll, create staff schedules, constantly evaluate student staff and program, write and execute performance reviews, help create and present trainings, promote KidSpirit programs, and respond to disciplinary and emergency situations. Overall, a Leadership Team Member must exemplify all KidSpirit policies and act as a role model to student staff and program participants.
