KidSpirit is a unit within the Division of Extension and Engagement. The mission of KidSpirit is to be a leader in providing young people with intentional, high quality, equitable learning experiences that promote positive interactions among adults and peers. KidSpirit prides itself in challenging its employees to grow as individuals while gaining professional experience.
KidSpirit Head Instructor is responsible for carrying out the mission of the OSU KidSpirit Program in an environment that is safe, exciting and challenging for the youth and the staff. The head instructor is responsible for planning, conducting and supervision of instruction emphasizing skill development in respective sport/activity along with being responsible for the well being of participants, camp counselors, and assistants. Head instructors plan and provide activities for large and small groups as well as 1:1 instruction.

Return equipment/supplies to the appropriate location.
Maintain/organize equipment area every night before clocking out for the day.
Talk to parents about their child’s progress as well as programs available through KidSpirit such as REC classes, summer camp, ACES, and parties.
Be familiar with our webpage and be able to direct families to resources.
Communicate with other staff as necessary including prompt responses to all KidSpirit staff’s emails, slack messages and phone calls.

Must be registered as a degree seeking student (college or high school)

Current, valid CPR Adult/Child certification by start of programming.
Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse and Neglect (RRCAN) certification by start of programming.

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.

Weekly work hours are a maximum of 24 hours per week during Fall, Winter, and Spring terms and 24-40 hours per week during the summer based on student’s summer enrollment.
Position includes some work on evenings and weekends, in addition to office work hours.
The Head Instructor may need to demonstrate proper participation, this may include lifting, turning, twisting, stepping up, etc based on the physical activity movement.
Instructors may need to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods of time, no greater than 90 minutes at one time.
The employee in this position will often be required to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and push and/or pull carts weighing up to 25 pounds.
Work environment can be noisy.

Youth Program Registry Trainings (don't need to upload to ideal logic)
Complete the OSU Youth Safety Standards of Behavior form
Complete the OSU training: Identifying and Reporting Sexual Misconduct (30 min) - Covers topics such as predators, codes of conduct, and reporting.
OSU Critical Trainings: All student employees are required to complete the Critical Training provided by University Human Resources
Completed in the Bridge Training Management System
Must be completed within 60 days of receiving enrollment notification via email

Head Instructors are responsible for the planning, implementation and supervision of instruction and skill development in a sport/activity for children ages 2-15 years old; along with being responsible for the well-being of participants, Camp Counselors, and assistants. A Head Instructor is under the administration and supervision of a program specific supervisor and KidSpirit Director.
