Rotation schedule:
Classes will follow the same format as recreational classes with the addition of being divided by level during warm-up:
Warm-up (cardio and lines)
During lines the gymnasts should be sorted by ability level. It works best to have one gymnastics coach leading warm-up (and moving gymnasts when possible) and another staff who is only moving gymnasts. When looking at your gymnasts you want to sort them from kindergym to level 2, your far left being kindergym, and your far right being level 2. You can also do some sorting ahead of time by putting any 4 or 5 year olds in kindergym, then adjusting as needed.
When sorting, go up a gymnast and ask them to move to a different line on the floor.
There can be up to 4 groups within each class depending on the number of gymnastics staff and the size of the ACES group. Pink is Kidergym, the next level is Green, then Blue, then Yellow. Depending on the ability level of your group, Green may be Level 1, Blue may be returning, or more advanced level 1s, and Yellow may be Level 2.
Event Rotations
Brief Stretching, conditioning & Reflection
Coaches need to maintain groups of eight or less, and provide a structured class environment. Classes should look like a standard gymnastics class.
Gymnastics Supervisors work with the Special Events Coordinator to arrange staff for birthday parties. Gymnastics Supervisors are not solely responsible for supervising birthday parties. Gymnastics parties only need gymnastics staff to provide instruction and direction for the guests.
Birthday parties run similar to open gym, or they can run like a regular class if wanted by guardian. The format starts with a warmup and stretch with the participants. Then based on what the guardians have asked for, gymnastics staff will run either a structured gymnastics lesson with stations (in which case you will run the class just like an ACES group) or the staff can let the participant whose birthday it is choose what events of activities they would like to do.
Friday Fun Night is from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Friday during the term. Attendance will be taken in room 126 at 5:30 where pizza will be provided. Once gymnasts are finished eating, they will warm-up, do lines, then have a structured open gym until it is time for cool-down.
Friday Fun Night does not run during Friday OSU Gymnastics meets.
Friday Fun Night is advertised as an opportunity for gymnasts to improve their skills, and for guardians to have a night off. Gymnastics staff ensure Friday Fun Night is a safe, structured, and constructive environment.
Gymnastics Staff/supervisors will ensure Friday Fun Night is adequately advertised (online, flyers) and announced in gymnastics classes throughout the week .
Gymnastics Supervisors ensure the gymnastics room has been reserved. See the scheduling section for how to reserve a room in Langton.
Scheduled staff:
The Gymnastics Supervisor and one staff for every 6-8 kids are scheduled to work Friday Fun Night.
Staff can go home (at the direction of the Supervisor) if there are not enough kids, unless there are gymnasts of widely varying skill levels. For example, if you have one four year old, two six year olds, a level 2 gymnast and a teenager who does Level 7 at Peak, you may not want to send staff home.
The Supervisor monitors Friday Fun Night, helping manage participants as needed.
Staff can be assigned for the whole term, or on a week-by-week basis, depending on how many staff are looking for more hours and are interested in working Friday Fun Night.
The staff and assigned supervisor for the week should be entered as the staff into the shift on Ideal-Logic for each week of open gym.
Managing Friday Fun Night
Gymnastics Staff welcome participants in room 126 in Langton Hall and check them in.
Gymnastics staff sends parents to the office to complete registrations and payment if needed. Office staff should be there to assist with this.
Friday Fun Night supervisor helps complete registrations and then checks on the group.
When gymnasts are done eating the staff will take them upstairs to the gymnastics room where they will do a formal warm-up with floor lines. Friday Fun Night staff then provide structure and activities for those participating. Friday Fun Night can be a little more flexible, but staff will offer skill-based training to those who would like it, allowing for learning and growth. At 8:20 the gymnasts will finish with a cooldown as a whole group.
KidSpirit is often invited to provide childcare or other activities at different events around Corvallis. Gymnastics Supervisors work with the Special Events Coordinator to manage dates, times and staffing. Below are a list of procedures and items needed for outdoor and indoor events.
