Summer in New York, 2024 and the most important night of Josh's life is finally here, his 21st birthday party. He has planned an elaborate murder mystery party and hires a cameraman to film the entire night. This film starts with a new lesbian couple, Allie and Lex, arriving at the party. Allie, a friend of Josh's, has neglected to tell her neurotic girlfriend, Lex, about Josh's plan until they arrive. When the two are greeted at the door by Josh in full costume and in character as their recently widowed mother, both realize that the night would be a lot more work than they'd signed up for. As they're ushered inside of the apartment, which has been transformed into a lavish 1980s set, they're met with a cameraman and assigned costumes (twins!). Inside the party we meet Josh and Allie's friend group, made up of messy gays, theater nerds, and general sluts, all equally confused by Josh's intensity. Throughout the party, increasingly wild relationship dynamics are revealed as the group tries to figure out what the hell the point of the night even is.
