I’m a dancer from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I’ve been a part of both the competitive and performative Irish dance world for 14 years now. While my favorite part of dance is performing, in the Irish dance world there is a high emphasis on competition. I’ve competed all over the world, and over the years have made competition prep part of my daily routine. As I’m nearing the end of my competitive career and focusing more on performing, I’m reflecting back on the practice of practicing and the exhaustion in repetition. In my future work, I hope to preserve the traditional aspect of Irish dance while exploring its ever changing contemporary elements.
