A Battle Between Two Powers
This visual story examines the relationship between emotional control, and the involuntary loss of it. It explores how the experience of electronic music has the ability to influence these two concepts subconsciously.
As humans, we wish to hold supreme power or authority over our inner demons, fighting them every day to keep them hidden, unheard, and unrecognized. This project conceptualizes the ability that electronic music has an ability to free us of our darkest moments, our darkest thoughts, our shadow selves. As an active participant in the experience of this music, we go to war with our inner demons, tearing down the walls of our ego one by one, until we finally reach a point of peace. We finally understand that, in the end, we never really had any control over our feelings.
Here, the electronic music is the guiding light towards emotional freedom. The dance showcases the wide range of emotions we experience that move all around and inside of us, fighting to be released.The paint creates a permanent work that reflect the moments in music and dance that are only temporary, and the black canvas represents our deepest, darkest emotional walls we put up in order to maintain control.

Sarah La’Berge, performing under the moniker “RÜBEE ”, is a DJ and Producer based out of New York City. She became versed in the art of DJing by studying under old-school turntablists, who taught her the fundamentals by spinning and beat matching Hip-Hop break records by ear. Her deep roots in traditional DJ styles eventually translated into an appreciation for spinning and creating electronic music. As a self-taught producer, she understands electronic music as a freeing, primal experience that is embedded in passion, creative expression, and acceptance of others. Electronic music can bring deep feeling and emotion to the individual listener, and that’s exactly what the project expands on.
