Tuning Fork Beats

This demonstrates beats between similar frequencies. After striking the tuning forks, you can hear the beats created.

Setup:

Place the tuning forks, dense putty, and mallet on the demo table.

Position some putty on one of the tuning forks, close to the top.

Strike both tuning forks with the mallet to hear the beats. (You may need to adjust the position to make the beats more recognizable.) Adding more or less putty will change the frequency.
