This exciting demonstration can be used to show multiple concepts. A step-up transformer creates a voltage that exceeds the dielectric breakdown of air between two rods. It can be used to discuss transformers, as well as general principles in electricity.

Setup:
Place the Jacob's Ladder apparatus on the demonstration table. Place the clear plastic safety shield over the device.Turn on the apparatus and the spark will rise up between the wires.
CAUTION: LETHAL VOLTAGES. UNPLUG THE DEVICE BEFORE MAKING ADJUSTMENTS.
Notes:
The wires may require some bending to get the best spark. The wires should be straight and clean.
