This demonstration shows eddy currents in an aluminum rod as it rolls in a magnetic field. When the aluminum rod rolls down the rails and enters the magnetic field it appears to slow down.

Setup:
Place the apparatus on the lab table. Connect the webcam to the projector system and set it up to view the apparatus.
Place the rod on the rails and release it. The rod will roll down the rails and slow down when it enters the magnetic field.
Notes:
If a battery is connected across the rails, the rod will roll back up the ramp once it enters the magnetic field.
